u mean if they’re paralized from the neck down? I think they got some sort of space age remote control you bite on, and depending on how you bite it, the chair does different things. Also, i think they drille a hole in ur head and hook up the wires to your brain so u can just operare the chair just by thinking it. You could think “i want the chair to go left” and the chair would go left. I imagine the chair does crazy things when they’re doing the horizontal monster mash though.
Quad means four limbs are affected. However, depending on where the spinal cord is broken depends on if they have complete paralysis. My friend is quadriplegic broke one lower than Chris Reeves: Superman but still has some movement in his hands. Superman used his mouth, others use their chin.

The previous answerer was absolutely correct: many quads with incomplete injuries are able to use their hands to operate the chair controls.
Also, there are several options for those who do not have use of their hands. One of the most common methods is the use of a “Sip and Puff” switch (see http://store.ergoguys.com/ac0300.html ). The user operates the device by either sucking or blowing into the tube.
Another common tool is the ASL Head Array. The user controls his chair by simply moving his head. (see http://www.asl-inc.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.asp?productid=3 )
some quadripegics have an amount of movement in wrists, if injury is lower they can move a thumb, then fingers. (they will still count as quads as they will not be able to totally move arms.)
if not, they will have a stick in their mouth or attached to their chin and use that.
