If you quit using muscles (i.e. ride in a chair instead of walk), your muscle mass with deteriorate and the use of your limbs will progressively get worse... and not using your joints will cause them to stiffen and get worse too. Probably not what you want to hear, but it's true. As far as getting the chair, if you REALLY REALLY want to get one, call the companies that make the chairs. They usually go above and beyond to sell them and will contact your insurance or set up a payment plan for you to have one. Your doctor probably won’t give you a chair because he doesn’t want you to lose functioning of your muscles. Sounds like you need to get the help of an occupational therapist to do a review of your situation. Ask your doc for a referral to an OT.
