Mobility Lifts Provide Freedom to Users
Article by Bob Lundin
If you use a wheelchair, scooter, or power chair to get around, you know how difficult it can be to get these chairs into a vehicle. These days, however, there are more options than ever for people to use to transport their chairs and to have the freedom to go anywhere they want. Mobility lifts are a great way to take wheelchairs, scooters, and power chairs with you wherever you may roam.
There are different types of lifts for mobility vehicles to choose from. Most mobility lifts will attach to the back of a truck, SUV, or van easily. They are usually very advanced in their mechanics and are able to support wheelchairs, scooters and power chairs of any size effectively. These lifts require installation; therefore the dealer will set up an appointment with you upon placing your order to have the device installed properly. Generally, installation is included with the sale of the device and will not take long at all. A hitch needs to be attached to the vehicle in order to support the lift.
Once installed, you will be able to use your mobility lift whenever you need to. Simply wheel the wheelchair, scooter or power chair onto the lift and then activate the machine to lift the chair up easily. The lift is powered by the battery of your car. Most of these devices work with just the push of a button and will easily lift up your chair. There is usually some sort of locking mechanism that the dealer you buy from will show you step by step how to use. From there, you will be able to go wherever you want and your chair will go with you! No matter what the weather conditions, you do not need to worry about the lift losing power or being damaged. If you buy the lift from a reputable, established dealer, then you can be sure that you are getting a quality piece of machinery that can stand up to any weather conditions.
Mobility lifts enable people who utilize wheelchairs, power chairs, or scooters to go wherever they want without having to worry about getting their chair there. There are many affordable lift options available and some people may qualify for reimbursement for the device from the manufacturer of their vehicle. Talk to your dealer and learn about all of your options so that you can start having the freedom that a well-made lift provides.

Question by goodwheelgirl: What were wheelchairs like in the 1960′s?
I Love the 1960′s all of my clothes and accessories are either vintage from the era or authenticly reproduced in a 60′s style.(It has taken me almost 10 yrs to build my wardrobe.)However, there is still one thing I need…..I have cerebral palsy and use a wheelchair for mobility. My contemporary chair just does not go with my look. It has been difficult finding images of full-time wheelchair users, so I do not know what type of chair I am looking for. I have found pics of hospital wheelchairs but those are always sized generally and look different from the ones owned by people for permenant use. I am assuming that they had metal spokes on the wheels ,metal footrests, lots of chrome and a minimal use of plastic compared to today’s models (am I correct ?) I would not use the vintage chair all the time but only for special occasions where I want to look completely authentic…….btw, I am no stranger to vintage chairs. I have a lovingly restored wheelchair from the 1920′s that I have used for plays and stuff……
Pictures, first-hand knowledge of 1960′s wheelchairs , anything is appreciated. But I would be even happier if you simply knew where I could acquire such a wheelchair.

This probably won’t help much, but with a quick Google search I found these 3 photos of wheelchairs in the ’60′s.
I entered into Google: “buy old 1960′s wheelchair”
Good luck. Love your attitude. I collect earrings myself. The ones from the 60′s are ones I got as gifts as a teenager!

What a God Send!,
I have lower back pain, and can only walk for about 5 – 10 minutes before having to sit down. I’m always on the lookout for a convenient place to sit – when one is not available, I have to bend way over and stretch my back muscles to get some relief. I was looking for a portable stool, and found this product. I don’t use the cane, but do use the stool. To use the stool, you simply unwrap a velcro fastener and fold out the 3 legs. A triangular shaped piece of canvas is what you sit on. I weight 240 lbs and find it to be very comfortable The handle of the cane is in front of the triangular seat, so it is easy to grab on to and lean on while seated. The weight is comfortable – I try to do power walks and find the slight weight of this product adds to the aerobic workout.
I had never used this type of product before, and bought the least expensive one I could find to see how well they worked. After two months of use, I can say this is a wonderful product and truly a godsend for anyone who cannot stand for any length of time. I do believe the construction may not hold up for many years, and that is the reason for the low priced as compared to other similar products. But priced as it is, replacement every 2 or 3 years would not be a bad thing.

|Interesting stool.,
Portable Walking Chair (Cane / Stool) from The Stadium Chair Company.
Great price, very useful.
The closed height is 36.5 inches, a little shorter than the 38 inches I prefer for a cane, and at 3 pounds a little heavy for a cane. The sack style seat has two knobs in back where your hips will be, so you have to scoot forward a bit. I wish the tops of the legs had been rounded or sloped a bit to prevent them from digging into the user’s hips. Not made for anyone with a large rear end, but ok for everyone else. A large folding flat seat would be a nice idea for future upgrades, as this one can become uncomfortable after 5 or 10 minutes. Emergency use only, not for watching a parade. It is compact enough to be taken into a crowded store or a tour bus (put it next to you). It is rated for 250 pounds, but the steel legs seem quite sturdy, as they handle my 275 pounds without any sign of strain, aided by the sturdy ring holding the legs together. (Folding aluminum deck chairs collapse on me in no time). I also use a rubber band on the bottom of the legs to prevent a clanking noise while walking.

|Portable Cane/stool,
I received this cane stool in plenty of time for our next vacation, the cane was excellent piece to walk with, very sturdy and held up well under the weight that was put on it, the seat was nice relief and comfortable to use. Thank you for the great service at Onlinesports.com

|Everest & Jennings (E&J) was the premiere chair in the 1960s, and the chair would look a lot like the ‘X-frame’ folding chrome ‘hospital’ chairs today. Look for one with chrome side panels.
Retro it with vinyl seating, solid armrests in black plastic, bike type handgrips, wire spoke wheels, etc. Remove all manufacturer stickers and decals.
Now- pimp it out. 60′s stickers and bumper stickers, etc.
